DI Richard Poole arrives at the airport of Sainte Marie, in reality the Aérodrome of Baillif in the south of the island of Basse Terre. There are actually no scheduled flights there. The sun doesn't usually burn there the way the inspector feels it does. There is usually a fresh breeze, the so-called Alizé winds. After being picked up by the commissioner and the police force, we go to Honoré for the first case
The ferry from Guadeloupe always arrives in the port of Honoré. "Spot the difference", "An unhelpful aid" and "Music of Murder" were also partly filmed there. In the bay of Deshaies facing the sea you will find restaurants and bars of all kinds, usually with Creole cuisine, including the restaurant l'Amer at the jetty for the yachts from all over the world. In the series, this is Megan Talbot's hotel in the 4th episode. Then at the northern end of the bay is Catherine's Bar, in reality the beach bar of the Madras restaurant. You can expect tropical cocktails and seafood, among other things, but not Catherine's chicken soup, which helped DI Richard Poole with his dengue. At the northern end of the bay, a market is also set up from time to time in the side streets for the series.
Our tour takes you to the filming locations of season 1, which are open to the public. These are largely located on the territory of the commune of Deshaies. Other filming locations and private villas can only be visited and photographed with the permission of the owners, such as the Hotel Habitation du Comté in the village of Comte de Lohéac, where Mr and Mrs Knight lived in the 4th episode. In some cases this is possible by arrangement with the owners, but there is no entitlement. E.g. episode 7 "Music of Murder" was partly filmed in the Tainoo Cottages on the beach Grande Anse or episode 3 "The Predicting Murder" in the middle school " Collège Félix Aladin Flémin" of Deshaies, named after the former mayor Félix Flemin, Jeanny Marc's predecessor in office. For logistical reasons, filming locations such as the harbour in Pointe-à-Pitre or the Aérodrome in Baillif cannot be visited on day trips. However, we have answers to many details: Where did Dwayne lose his police badge? Where does the police jeep come down into the village? In which hotel was Lady Hamilton murdered? Was it at the Tendacayou Spa, high above Deshaies, where she also lied to both officers in the restaurant? In any case, Paradise Beach was the Cluny beach between Deshaies and Sainte Rose, where Léon Hamilton defrauded many investors by screwing up a construction project - including the commissioner Selwyn Patterson.
