To the locations of Death in Paradise: Spring 2024

For our company opening in spring 2024, we are organising a trip to the filming locations on Sainte-Marie. We will stay at the Hotel Fort-Royal, where many episodes take place. During this time, filming always takes place for the following year. With a bit of luck, you will meet some actors.

You can already request the detailed programme for this 15-day trip without obligation: service@robert-erdt.com. We will also visit the Saintes Islands, Marie-Galante and the volcano La Soufrière. We take an excursion to Kahouanne Island (Sébastian Island  or St Felix Island  in the series) and stroll through the colourful markets in Pointe-à-Pitre and Basse-Terre. On several days you will see the filming locations in Deshaies (Honoré), Sainte-Rose and Pointe-Noire. In our restaurant Chez Samy, uniquely located in the nature reserve on the long sandy beach Grande Anse, you can enjoy fruity cocktails and Creole specialities in a relaxed "slow motion" Caribbean flair far from hotel castles and streams of tourists.  We will meet one or the other Creole original and let him chat from his live and last but not least, a cooking course awaits you.

What makes Death in Paradise stand out?

With a low budget, it managed to achieve top ratings in the UK, between 8 and 9 million viewers per episode. The concept was heavily criticised by the writing guild at the beginning. The actors were dubbed C-lessons. Even on the ground in Deshaies, the series was hardly noticed. Something was shot that nobody knew. People went to the chemist's, to the baker's, to the swimming pool, filming was going on next door and there was no crowd.  Only crime fiction fans who had lived in France for a longer period of time remembered Sara Martin's. Screenwriter Robert Thorogood tried unsuccessfully to sell something to the BBC for about 15 years from the age of 20, and his wife helped him financially, before he met Tony Jordan of Red Planet Pictures at a screenwriting competition in 2008. (a.o. The Guardian v. 13 January 21 online) But how is it different from other series? The police are not armed, just as the community police in Deshaies are not. There are no sex crimes, no brutal scenes and the Caribbean feel of life comes into the living room. No billboards, no high-rise buildings, no traffic chaos, no stress. This is Deshaies in reality - 40 km of Caribbean dream. An evening show that the whole family enjoys watching and where no one has to be sent to bed. Who is the most popular actor or actress? Sara Martins made her breakthrough with the series and was a hit. She was only topped by Josephine Jobert. Will she return as DS Florence Cassell? It's being discussed in GB and she apparently hasn't ruled it out (as of June 2023). The "filming town" is always set up at the large car park opposite the harbour. Relax and watch the hustle and bustle. Tune in live - visit Deshaies/Honoré with us
