Many French series and TV films were shot on St Maarten / St Martin. The scriptwriters were inspired by the two-part island and its multi-culti. Marigot with its fort, the important marina and the nationally known market, Philippsburg with its cruise terminal and many luxurious villas would also have provided a worthy setting. However, St Martin is densely populated and the landscapes are not as stunning as on the west coast of Guadeloupe. Sante-Marie is about 160 km² - roughly the size of Marie-Galante. Life there is dreamy, the beaches beautiful and the villages cosy. Just like on Sainte-Marie. We will be happy to work out your à la carte itinerary: from Marie-Galante via Deshaies to Sint Maarten / St Martin.
Bob Woolmer was a former English cricketer who died in mysterious circumstances at the 2007 Cricket World Cup in Jamaica. At the time, he was the coach of the successful Pakistani cricket team, which sensationally lost in the first round against the gross underdogs Ireland and was eliminated. He was then found dead in his hotel room. More than 400 people were questioned by the Jamaican police. The British police sent an inspector to investigate the murder. Robert Thorogood was inspired by this.
At the beginning, no one would have thought what impact the series would have on tourism in Deshaies. It was assumed that it would be like "Les vacances de l'amour" on St Martin/Sint Maarten, manageable. We also observed this on our website. 3/4 of the German-speaking trade visitors to our website click on the series at least once. Today the clicks are in the four-digit range. The tourist season has also developed well outside the holidays due to film tourism. At the moment Deshaies has about 15,000 additional visitors a year. The trend is upwards. At the moment, about 45 sets are being erected, including the inspector's pavilion. In Pointe Noire, a two-year training course to become a multimedia technician (BTS audiovisuel) can be taken at the high school since 2021. The series recruits many extras and technicians from there.
