Kayak hiking on the sea

This sport is becoming increasingly popular in Europe. Various tours are offered not only on the rivers, but also on the coast at sea. The Lesser Antilles with their warm temperatures offer very good conditions for a relaxing week of paddling. However, conditions are not the same everywhere. On some islands there is a very good offer, on others paddling is still hardly widespread. Circumnavigations of islands, such as Elba, are not possible or not common for various reasons. Continuous tours (classic canoeing) are available in Guadeloupe, for example. Otherwise, there is a weekly canoeing programme with excursions.

Guadeloupe: Deshaies - Sainte-Rose

We paddle from Deshaies harbour around the Gros Morne mountain to Grande Anse beach. There, our brother-in-law "Samy" awaits us in his restaurant for lunch on the long sandy beach of Grande Anse and tells us anecdotes from the series "Death in Paradise". Other stops include the beach "la Perle" with the inspector's bungalow, the extensive Fort Royal complex (overnight stay there in bungalows or hotel rooms), Plage des Amandiers and the mangrove forests off the coast of Sainte-Rose.

Beautiful canoe trips can also be organised in the mangrove forests around the Rivière Salée. Canoe tours can also be organised in the mangrove forests around the Rivière Salée and in a glass kayak off the Saintes Islands. Or you can take part in the WAM Adventure. Next date 22.11-27.11.2022 in Deshaies. One woman and one man must master various tests as a team, including a canoe trip.

Paddling in Antigua is currently limited to trips through the mangrove forests of the north-east (North Sound Marine Park, transfer by motorboat, change to kayak) and to the scenic little islands in Mercers Creek Bay and the surrounding area. There are a variety of beautiful tours here.Paddle to Guiana Island, for example. Please note that a weekly programme is only possible on request, as the availability of suitable guides must first be checked. On-site hotel or holiday flat and daily boat transport.

There is a wide range of kayak tours on offer in Martinique. However, these are at different locations and offer local excursions, e.g. through the mangroves in the bay of Fort-de-France near Trois-Îlets, Ducos and Rivière-Salée. From Le Robert on the west coast of the island, e.g. to Baignoire de Josephine, Îlet Chancel, Trou Cochon. A weekly programme from one location is possible, but an alternative is to combine the west and south coasts with different landscapes and hotel changes. The programme can also be adapted according to local conditions.

Anguilla is also a very popular kayaking destination. There are several hire stations. One popular tour goes from Blowing Point via Rendez-Vous Bay with its golf course and beach bars such as the Sunshine Shack to Cove Bay. Another is from Crocus Bay to Little Bay with its caves and the opportunity to jump off a cliff. Or from Sandy Ground via Long Bay to Meads Bay with views of the magnificent villas. A complete or partial circumnavigation of the island is theoretically possible, but there are always passages that are not so suitable for kayaking. Overnight stays in hotels and holiday flats and daily transport of the kayaks.
